AC Transmission Control Cabinet for 220-240-Ton BELAZ Trucks Developed by Huanyang Juchuang (Shaanxi) Technology Equipment Co., Ltd.

2026-06-02

One of the latest innovative products from our company is the AC electromechanical transmission (EMT) control cabinet with an efficient liquid cooling system, designed for installation on 220-240-ton dump trucks. It was developed in cooperation with a domestic manufacturer of electrical equipment.

Structurally, the new Huanyang Juchuang cabinet consists of three sections housed in a single enclosure. Two sections contain power inverters that control the electric wheel motors, along with modules for interaction with the traction generator. A separate section is dedicated to the autonomous liquid cooling system, including a radiator, pump, control module, and a network of pipelines and manifolds connecting everything into a single circuit.

*“We aimed to replicate the classic cabinet of our serial models BELAZ-75306 and BELAZ-7530G, so that the new power cabinet could fit in the same space without major modifications. However, there are some external differences. For example, to improve access to electrical equipment, the cabinet now has not only front doors but also side doors – though these changes are only visible to a specialist,”* says the head of the Electromechanical Transmission Department at Huanyang Juchuang.

Simply put, the operating principle of the dump truck’s AC EMT power unit is as follows: the generator driven by the diesel engine produces alternating current, which enters the control cabinet, is rectified, and feeds the DC link, which includes a bus with a capacitive filter.

The Huanyang Juchuang control cabinet is hermetically sealed and has a rated protection degree of IP54 for compartments not exposed to the environment. This ensures reliable protection of power electronics from dust and water, as well as stable operating temperatures – crucial for efficient operation in harsh mining and climatic conditions.

*“Compared with the BELAZ DC electric drive, adopting an AC-AC EMT with our own control cabinet in 220-240-ton dump trucks represents a shift to a more modern and efficient type of drive using asynchronous motors,”* the technical head emphasizes. “The advantages are substantial: frequency-controlled asynchronous motors offer higher overload capacity, higher rotational speed, and better weight and size characteristics. Moreover, the absence of a commutator and brushes – which require constant monitoring and periodic replacement – significantly reduces maintenance intensity.”

The power section of the control cabinet is based on IGBT units. A microprocessor-based control, monitoring, protection, and diagnostics system integrated into the cabinet ensures high energy and operational performance of the EMT. Additionally, with no wearing parts inside, the cabinet requires lower maintenance costs.

Currently, the Huanyang Juchuang power cabinet is undergoing low-voltage testing to verify proper assembly and connection of all units and modules. It will then be installed on a production 220-ton dump truck, and the new EMT control cabinet will be tested at the company’s proving ground.

Developers will set up and monitor the cabinet’s operation, starting with the movement of an empty dump truck across different speed ranges on flat terrain and uphill, gradually loading the vehicle until the body is fully loaded.
